KAYUH LASAK PENANG MTB JAMBOREE F A Q
(All you wanted to know but was afraid to ask!)

Kayuh Lasak 2011 – “ KAW Ride!”

1. What is the Kayuh Lasak Penang Mountain-bike Jamboree?
It is a recreational event that caters to all levels of mountain-biking enthusiasts from beginners, weekend warriors to hardcore competitors. It is not a race, per se, but more of a personal challenge where you try to overcome your self-imposed physical limits. However, some do race to challenge themselves and others while others take the time to savor the beautiful scenery and take pictures to record their experiences for eternity. The focus however is on Fun, Food and Fellowship.

2. How much financial damage do I need to incur to enjoy this event?
The main event Kayuh Lasak on Sunday aptly themed “KAW Ride!” is for individuals and costs a measly RM50/ per person.
As always a Grand Jamboree dinner where Penang’s famous local culinary delights will be served. You will also get our event souvenir attire, riding plate, lots of sponsored goodies, an exclusive finisher medal, and the chance to win lots of lucky draw prizes including some really, really awesome bike frames from some of the most sought after brand names in the MTB scene. What more can you ask for!?

3. Wow, can I still sign up for this event?
If you’re reading this and smiling…then congrats! You’re one of the participants who managed to sign up! But if you didn’t, sorry! You missed the boat again!

4. Are there any watering stations for me to replenish my water supply?
1st Water Station - kilometer 10
2nd Water Station - kilometer 20
3rd Water Station - kilometer 27
4th Water Station - kilometer 37
Remember, this is Kayuh Lasak..so please be SELF SUFFICIENT!

5. How is the trail like? Is it very tough?
The trail gets tougher every year. Hence, it's a really, really KAW ride... but the ride gets easier. Ironic, no?  Duh!

6. Really, what’s the trail like??
The trail is designed so that it incorporates all aspects of mountain-biking. There are killer climbs, drops and technical descents, fast downhill single tracks, river crossings, portaging and sections where you will wet your pants (from fear and from pleasure) and others where you will use vocabulary not heard in polite company.

7. Like that-ah. So what to bring-ah?
HELMET(COMPULSORY! NO HELMET NO RIDE!). Be SELF-SUFFICIENT i.e. lotsa drinking water (min 3 liters), gloves and protective gear (optional) and the usual bike accessories like multi-tool, spare tubes and pump. An enduring spirit to overcome the odds, COMMON SENSE to walk the bike when your confidence fails you and your sense of humor to enjoy the trail and the company of your fellow sufferers will help.
Ride hard, ride fast BUT ride SAFE and have FUN! Last but not least remember to smile at the volunteers on the trail and at the medical aid and feeding stations.

8. How do I recognize the trail?
The trail will be clearly laid with KL’11 paper, Orange KTM markers, signboards with direction indicators and lots of marshals and traffic controllers. If in doubt, wait up for fellow riders. If none turn up, backtrack till you find a marshal or the paper trail.

10. Got insurance-ah?
Where got money left. Only charge RM50/ plus give so many things. Buy your own insurance-lah. Be responsible for your own actions. Seriously, ALL riders will be required to sign an indemnity form to clear the organizers and their agents of any legal proceedings. This is a non-profit making event and is organized by volunteers who have sacrificed much of their time, energy and money FOC, so they don’t need to be burdened by legal issues after the event. Those who do not agree can withdraw and will be given a FULL REFUND. Please refer to the INDEMNITY FORM.

11. What is the walkie-talkie channel?
Yes. We do have. The channel is tentatively set at 3-3. Please re-confirm channel when you check-in.

12. Still got checkpoint stickers to collect-ah?
“KAW Ride!” 4th Dec 2011 - Yes, there are 9 control checkpoints along the trail where stickers will be given out to be placed on your riding plate.

VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER!.
Checkpoint #1 check-in sticker IS COMPULSORY for you to start the ride! It can even determine whether you are the JUARA or not.

IMPORTANT: YOU MUST GET YOUR CHECKPOINT STICKERS AT THE DESIGNATED CHECKPOINTS.
We're emphasizing this - this is critical especially if your target is to be Juara Kayuh Lasak or even become the King or Queen of the hill (We're definitely not discounting anyone). So if you come in first minus even one CP sticker, you don't get the championship trophy.

13. How to qualify for the lucky draw hah?
Only participants with valid riding plates are eligible for the lucky draws. You have to complete the ride (with a minimum 5 checkpoint stickers) to qualify for Grand & Lucky draw.
3-4 checkpoint stickers are ONLY eligible for Complimentary draw.
Your lucky draw numbers and goodies can be claimed at the finishing line by showing your riding plate to the official in charge. Please put one piece of the lucky draw number into the assigned box and retain the other to claim the prize. Riders must claim the prizes PERSONALLY.

VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER!
Checkpoint #9 check-out sticker IS COMPULSORY for you to get your goodies, Finisher Medal and lucky draw!

UNCLAIMED prizes will be REDRAWNED.

Any request to collect the goodies after the KL'11 event will not be entertained.
